Foulkes says she’s ‘decided not to run for Congress’
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Former CVS Health executive and Rhode Island gubernatorial candidate Helena Foulkes said Monday she’s “decided not to run for Congress.”
“This wasn’t an easy decision,” she wrote to her supporters in an email. “I’m deeply passionate about serving the people of Rhode Island and incredibly honored that so many of you believe that I would represent you and your families well in Washington.”
She said that right now, she believes she can have a “bigger impact in the long run” by working with community members on local issues such as the housing crisis and “struggling public schools.”
“I want to help fix them here,” said Foulkes.
Despite finishing a close second in the Democratic primary back in September, Foulkes said she’s “convinced that there is still a lot that we can achieve together.”
“I love coaching other leaders and have been inspired by how I can help people working on issues that matter to all of us,” she said. “The challenges we face are real, but the opportunities we can embrace together are exciting.”
Foulkes concluded the email by thanking her supporters and saying, “Let’s continue to work together to get big things done for Rhode Island.”
While the former CVS Health executive remains “committed” to Rhode Island, Sen. Sandra Cano announced Monday that she’s running for Rhode Island’s 1st Congressional seat, which opened when Rep. David Cicilline said last month he was resigning from Congress this summer.
