4 arrested after setting off fireworks on street in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Providence police said four people were arrested after setting off fireworks in the street early Tuesday morning.

Police said they were called to Glenham and Taylor streets at about 2 a.m., where the fireworks caused a large fire.

Firefighters worked to get the flames under control and made sure it didn’t spread to any nearby homes or cars.

Neighbors said the fireworks were part of an annual Fourth of July block party celebration.

“Every year. Fireworks, celebrate. But we never have any problem,” said Jose Martinez, a Taylor Street resident.

According to police, two people were charged with resisting arrest, one person with obstruction charges, and another person is charged with simple assault.

While responding, police told ABC 6 News officers used pepper spray on the crowd while arrests were being made.

Neighbors said the fireworks were part of an annual Fourth of July block party celebration.
