Fifth person charged in connection New Bedford homicide

A fifth person has been charged in connection to the New Years Eve murder of a New Bedford man.

24-year-old Angel Acevedo was arrested Thursday night at the New Bedford Police Department, charged with accessory to murder after the fact in connection to the shooting death of 24-year-old Aaron Gant Jr.. Acevedo is scheduled to be arraigned Friday.

A fourth person, 22-year-old Aaron Bookman, was arrested earlier Thursday, charged with the obstruction of justice portion of the state’s witness intimidation statute in connection to the ongoing investigation.

Police previously charged Chad Santos, 25; Kathleen Rivera, 24; and Lorena Rivera, 21, all of New Bedford, with the same obstruction of justice charge in connection to the murder.

Gant was shot dead while sitting in a car with two other individuals on Grinnell Street just after 7:15 p.m. on December 31.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office says the homicide investigation remains active and ongoing.
