Fourth victim of Billerica auto auction crash dies

BILLERICA, M.A. – Authorities have confirmed a 4th victim of the accident at the Lynnway auto auction in Billerica has died.

Elliott Rowlands Jr., 50, of Buzzards Bay,was pronounced dead at Lahey Clinic following injuries sustained during the crash on May 3rd.

A Jeep driven by a 70-year old-employee hit several people and crashed into a wall.

A statement from Lynnway Auto Auction President Jim Lamb read in part:

"We continue to be shocked and saddened at the loss of life and injuries that occurred as a result of last week’s tragic accident. At this morning’s service, words of comfort, sympathy and prayer were offered. We want to extend those thoughts to the family of Mr. Rowlands who passed away today from his injuries.  Our prayers and condolences are with them and all of those who have been impacted by the accident."

Two other victims were from Rhode Island; 48-year-old Brenda Lopez who was laid to rest on Tuesday, and 49-year-old Panta Leon Santos who will have a funeral service on Saturday.

Officials added that the auction opened on Tuesday for the first time since the crash.

Customers were met with increased security, fire details, and extra barriers separating the cars as they went down the line.

 The investigation is ongoing, and no further information is available at this time.
