FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WLNE) — The Foxborough School Committee voted to phase out the high school’s Warriors logo at their meeting Tuesday night.

Three committee members voted yes to replacing it, one voted no, and one cast an “outstanding” vote.

Community members, mainly high school students and alumni, attended to voice their opinions during public comment.

“This is Native American history. They helped us win World War I and World War II,” said one alumnus. “If we take their imagery away, they wouldn’t have the privilege to be honored as a tribe and their accomplishments.”

Sarah Lidonni, who voted no, said her reasoning was that “phasing out” the current mascot seemed too vague without a replacement presented.

Michelle Thackson had the “outstanding” vote, saying she would like to see the committee explore other options.

“It is hard to say that you’re going to take something away and then officer nothing in return,” she said, as those in favor of keeping the mascot clapped.

Students will still be allowed to wear clothing with the Warriors mascot to school.

The committee will discuss ideas for a new logo in a future meeting.
