Freetown emergency crews battle fire at recycling plant

FREETOWN, M.A. (WLNE) – Around 6:40 a.m. police and fire responded to the Assonet Industrial Park on reports of seeing heavy smoke in the area.  

First responders state that the smoke and fire were located at the Excel Recycling Plant which is located off of Ridge Hill Road.

 There have also been reports of explosions around that location.

As of 8:00 a.m., the police department had asked the public to remain calm and away from the scene.
