LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – Preston Knowles had 20 points and 10
rebounds in his final home game to lead No. 11 Louisville to an
87-60 victory over reeling Providence on Wednesday night.
Kyle Kuric had 25 points and Chris Smith added 12 for Louisville
(23-7, 12-5), which clinched one of the top four spots in next
week's Big East tournament and a coveted double-bye into the
quarterfinals.
Vincent Council led the Friars (14-16, 3-14) with 20 points but
the Cardinals held Providence star Marshon Brooks in check. The Big
East's leading scorer lit Louisville up for 27 points in an upset
win on Jan. 22, but finished with 12 points on 3-of-12 shooting in
the rematch. Providence has lost seven straight.
Knowles added five assists and one of the more remarkable shots
of his career, a no-look, over-the-head flip just before the
halftime buzzer that gave the Cardinals a 45-35 lead.
