From Florida to Nantucket, great white shark ‘Contender’ makes his way to Mass. waters

NANTUCKET, Mass. (WLNE) — A big great white shark has been located near Nantucket.

That’s according to OSEARCH, a global non-profit organization that researches sharks and marine life.

It also has tags on more than 400 marine animals to track their migration patterns.

The largest shark tagged by OSEARCH is “Contender,” and he’s made his way to our waters.

Contender is 13 feet and nine inches long and weighs one-thousand 653-pounds.

His latest ping was July 18th by Nantucket Shoals and Georges Bank.

Before then, Contender was tagged by Florida back in January.

You can see his tracking page here.
