RAYNHAM, M.A. (WLNE) — The Southeastern Massachusetts community came together Saturday to raise money for the family of Bryce Derosier, the 16-month-old son of a Taunton police officer, who passed away in June from Mitochondrial disease.

"Watching everything that Jamie and Jeremy were going through, I just, you know, being a friend of the family, just wanted to do what we could to help them," said fundraiser organizer Christy McCabe.

Vendors, raffles, and t-shirts for sale helped to raise funds for the family’s medical expenses, after Bryce spent months in the hospital fighting for his life. He suffered a massive seizure that pushed him into a coma.

"We watched our little boy fight, fight for every second of every day. We fought for smiles, we fought for eye openings …. He never spoke but he spoke volumes," said Bryce’s mom, Jamie.

After coming out of that coma, he got an infection and died when his liver failed.

Bryce’s mom, Jamie, and dad, Jeremy, are now dealing with their three-year-old daughter Aubriella fighting the same disease. But they’re staying positive and taking things day by day.

"You just live in the moment they’re in now because you never know what tomorrow will look like," said Jamie.

The support they received during Bryce’s fight is helping them through the pain.

"My son was my hero, my inspiration and things that the community has done for us reminds us that his story mattered and he made quite the impact. When you think that you are alone, you have this community that rallies around you and shows you you’re not."
