Funeral Services to be held for Bishop Emeritus of Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Funeral services are scheduled today for Bishop Emeritus of Providence Louis E. Gelineau.
According to his obituary, Bishop Gelineau passed away on November 7th, 2024 at the age of 96 at Saint Antoine resident in North Smithfield.
Pope Saint Paul VI appointed him as the sixth Bishop of Providence in December of 1971. He served as Bishop for more than 25 years, until his retirement in 1997, making him the second longest bishop in diocesan history.
The funeral services will take place at the Cathedral of Saints Peter & Paul as followed: The Rite of Reception with Solemn Office for the Dead at 9:00am; Visitation from 9:00-10:45am; The Mass of Christian Burial starting at 11:00am.
