Gang member sentenced to federal prison

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – A Providence gang member was sentenced to federal prison Friday on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Cranston Police arrested Anthony Washburn, 33, of Providence during a July 2018 traffic stop after officers seized a firearm and a stolen stamp collection from his vehicle.
The U.S. Attorney’s office said Washburn is a known member of the Hanover Boyz gang.
Washburn was sentenced to serve 51 months in federal prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release.
Washburn pleaded guilty to the charges in January.
According to court records, Washburn has previous convictions convicted in Rhode Island on firearm and drug trafficking charges.
