Gas prices rise in the Northeast
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — AAA Northeast shared Monday that gas prices are on the rise again as oil refineries across the country pump the breaks on gasoline production.
The average gas price in Rhode Island is four cents higher than last week ($3.10), averaging $3.14 per gallon.
Today’s price is 12 cents higher than one month ago ($3.02), and 19 cents lower than Feb. 19, 2023 ($3.33).
AAA shared that the state’s average gas price is 13 cents lower than the national average.
Mark Schieldrop, Senior Spokesperson for AAA Northeast shared:
“A few weeks ago, refiners were concerned about weak demand and a potential oversupply of winter blend gasoline as we approached the spring, but those fears are quickly dissipating — gas prices are likely to increase as more refineries undergo seasonal maintenance, especially with ongoing tensions in the Middle East putting upward pressure on oil prices.”
AAA Northeast’s Feb. survey found the current national average to be eight cents higher than last week, 19 cents higher than one month ago, and 14 cents lower than this day last year.
