Gaspee Days charity license plates head into production

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — The Gaspee Days charity license plates are going into production.
The Gaspee Days Committee announced Monday that 568 people put in orders over the past 12 weeks, enough to get the project going.
The committee said they needed at least 300 valid orders to before they could order the plates themselves.
The vanity plate is based on artwork by Rhode Island artist Karl Doerflinger. His piece shows the HMS Gaspee up in smoke in a muted background.
People have the chance to order a Gaspee Days plate from the committee until Friday.
After that, people can order the plates from the Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles at a later date.
The plates are available for pre-order to replace existing Rhode Island plates. The plates can’t be used on new or changed registrations.
