Gateway Healthcare announces it will close six Healthcare group homes this summer, which will affect residents, to decrease finance deficits of declining reimbursement rates.

Gateway Healthcare says the close, that is scheduled to happen by the end of the summer, will affect 55 adults and 15 children and adolescents but their care and treatment plans will be completed.

They will take the appropriate steps to transition the residents, which need it, to the proper group homes.

The following homes affected include:

  • LaBelle House in North Kingston
  • Central Street in Central Falls
  • King House in Woonsocket
  • Men House in Woonsocket
  • Arcadia Children’s Home in West Greenwich
  • Lighthouse for Youth in Wakefield

In a statement Richard Leclerc, President of Gateway Healthcare said “We did not make this decision lightly. It followed an extensive and exhaustive review of each of our programs and all of our options. The reality is these programs have been losing money for many years and reimbursement rates have been cut. It is no longer possible to sustain the level of quality of services we provide at the current reimbursement levels.”

They have notified the Rhode Island Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals and the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families since it’s required by law within 90 days.

Gateway Healthcare will continue to maintain eight adult group homes and four adolescent homes.
