PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island General Assembly adopted legislation Thursday allowing residents of the state to access casino games remotely.

The bill allows Rhode Islanders over the age of 21 to access existing table games at Bally’s Twin River Casino via a computer or a mobile app.

The bill was sponsored by Senate President Dominick Ruggerio and Rep. Gregory Costantino and was requested by Bally’s as a way to raise state revenue and compete with surrounding states.

“[This legislation] helps ensure the continued strength of the state facilities in the competitive regional gaming market, and in so doing protects an important revenue stream that provides funding for vital state programs and investments,” Ruggerio said.

As required in the amended legislation, a live dealer will be present for all games.

The passage of the bill comes a day after the state passed legislation allowing wagers on competitive college sports tournaments.

The bill will now be considered by Gov. Dan McKee.
