‘Get to work’: Amo, Magaziner call on Trump and GOP to address SNAP shut off
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — As the government shutdown drags on into its first full month, a primary focus of the shuttering has been the looming cut off of SNAP benefits on November 1.
President Donald Trump has said that the administration would introduce a plan to prevent the stoppage of benefits, though no proposal has been made public.
Rhode Island Congressmen Seth Magaziner and Gabe Amo spoke Wednesday about pause in SNAP benefits.
“When Donald Trump cares about something, he moves pretty fast,” said Congressman Amo.
“Why can’t he and Congressional Republicans move quickly when it comes to feeding people in this country?…Move quickly, come to the table, get to work.”
The other high-profile sticking point in the shutdown has been the cost of healthcare, with one research group saying that Americans’ premiums could increase an average of 26 percent.
Those who currently rely on subsidies could see their premium bills double.
