Gorbea gets backing from SEIU workers

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island SEIU State Council announced their endorsement for Nellie Gorbea’s race for Governor.

Dozens of union members gathered in Providence Thursday to put their support behind Gorbea.

SEIU State Council represents a myriad of workers across the state, including healthcare, Department of Children and Families, Janitorial and more. Nationwide, the union represents two million members.

“Nellie Gorbea’s proven track record on creating family sustaining jobs, affordable housing and coalition-building uniquely qualifies her to lead Rhode Island through the challenges of our times,” said Jesse Martin, Exec. Vice President of SEIU 1199 New England. “Nellie is committed to expanding healthcare access, investing in our public education system and tackling complex environmental challenges – we look forward to working with her to achieve this vision over the next four years.”
