PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Governor Dan McKee will celebrate Rhode Island’s progress of the state’s offshore wind farm.

Announced officially in May, “Revolution Wind” will plan to build wind turbines 15 miles south of Rhode Island’s coast, and generate 704 megawatts of energy when it opens in 2025.

Today’s event will see McKee and other Rhode Island officials tour the construction vessel workers will live in and work from called the “eco-edison.”

Officials will thank the 125 local union workers who are working on the project.

“Revolution Wind” will be the first commercial-scale offshore wind project for Rhode Island and Connecticut, and the first multi-state offshore wind farm in the country.

Ørsted and Eversource have invested $100 million in the work at their ProvPort hub.
