Gov. Healey declares this week ‘Hurricane Preparedness Week’ in Massachusetts
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (WLNE) — Gov. Maura Healey declared the week of July 9 to July 15 “Hurricane Preparedness Week” in Massachusetts.
The move comes as a part of the administration’s plans to strengthen community preparedness and resilience.
Healey said the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency will highlight the state’s ongoing hurricane mitigation efforts and offer resources for residents and municipalities during the week.
“As climate change fuels extreme weather across the country, every Massachusetts community must plan and prepare for the potential impact of tropical storms and hurricanes,” Healey said. “During Hurricane Preparedness Week, I encourage residents of coastal and inland areas alike to visit MEMA’s website for preparedness information, make a plan, and stay informed about how to take care of yourself and your loved ones before, during and after a storm.”
The governor also presented tips for residents to prepare for hurricanes, including knowing their evacuation zone, making an emergency plan, building an emergency kit, and staying up-to-date on hurricane news.
Rhode Island Energy also released guidelines for regional residents to follow during hurricane season.
