Gov. Healey demands answers after Milford student detained by ICE
MILFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey said she is demanding information from ICE after reports of a Milford High School student being arrested by ICE.
Healey said that she was “disturbed and outraged” by the arrest, and that local officials and law enforcement were not given any information on the arrest before or after it occurred.
“I’m demanding that ICE provide immediate information about why he was arrested, where he is and how his due process is being protected,” she said.
Rep. Jake Auchincloss attended a rally being held by community members in support of the detained student.
“I joined Milford students and residents in solidarity after a Milford High School junior was detained by immigration officials on Saturday morning while driving teammates to a volleyball practice,” he said. “This reckless behavior does not make the residents of Milford safer, and I stand with the community in support of law and order.”
ABC 6 has reached out to the Milford Public School District and ICE for more information on the arrest and is awaiting responses.
Healey’s full statement can be read below:
I’m disturbed and outraged by reports that a Milford High School student was arrested by ICE on his way to volleyball practice yesterday. Yet again, local officials and law enforcement have been left in the dark with no heads up and no answers to their questions. I’m demanding that ICE provide immediate information about why he was arrested, where he is and how his due process is being protected. My heart goes out to the Milford community on what was supposed to be a celebratory graduation day. The Trump Administration continues to create fear in our communities, and it’s making us all less safe.
