Gov. McKee directs flags to be flown at half-staff following Afghanistan attack

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- Gov. Dan McKee is directing all state facilities and buildings to fly U.S. and Rhode Island flags at half-staff following Thursday’s terrorist attack in Afghanistan.
The governor is directing the flags to remain at half-staff until Monday at sunset, as a sign of respect for U.S. service members and other victims killed in the attacks.
“We are devastated by the tragic loss of American service members and Afghan civilians in Kabul. On behalf of the State of Rhode Island, I offer my deepest condolences to their families and loved ones,” Gov. McKee said.
He is also encouraging all Rhode Islanders to lower their flags as a sign of respect.
