PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Governor Dan McKee filed a budget amendment today to extend Rhode Island College’s Hope Scholarship program for an additional two years.

Originally launched as a pilot program in 2023 the Hope Scholarship provides tuition support for RIC in-state students for their junior and senior years.

According to the Governor’s office, the Hope Scholarship has produced over $2 million in funding as of April 2024.

Without Gov. McKee’s budget amendment the pilot program would end in May 2025.

Dr. Jack Warner, President of RIC, shared that this scholarship has impacted 243 students who are able to continue their education this year, tuition-free.
