Gov. McKee orders flags at half-staff following Illinois July 4 parade shooting

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Gov.Dan McKee has ordered all state and U.S. flags to remain at half-staff until July 9 following several shootings on July 4.

In a release, McKee said the flags will be lowered as “a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless gun violence on Independence Day.”

The flag lowering follows a proclamation issued by President Joe Biden earlier in the day.

Monday seven people died following a mass shooting at a July 4 parade in Highland Park, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.

The suspect Robert Crimo III, 22, has been arrested.

Monday night two police officers in Philadelphia were shot near the end of a July 4 celebration.

Both officers are expected to be OK and that suspect still remains on the loose.
