Gov. Raimondo announces 430 new cases, 13 more deaths and addresses RI arts community
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Governor Raimondo announced new daily data for COVID-19 in the state along with announcements for the arts community and Hispanic community.
Saturday, 430 new positive cases of COVID-19 were reported, bringing the state’s total to 7,129 cases.
There were sadly, 13 additional fatalities to report, bringing the state’s death toll to 215.
Currently, 263 people are hospitalized, with 77 of those people in the ICU and 52 on a ventilator.
50,891 Rhode Islanders have been tested and 43,762 have had a negative result.
Raimondo announced that cases seem to be plateauing and on Friday the state completed over 3,000 tests, surpassing the original daily test goal of 2,000.
Arts and culture are a big part of Rhode Island. After last week’s announcement, $15,000 was raised in one week to support local artists struggling right now.
As everyone remains social distancing at home, the governor wants everyone, no matter their age to connect using art.
Everyone is asked to express this time through family friendly art of all forms: songs, videos, poems, pictures, of their feelings and inspirations.
To submit your art, post it on social media with the hashtag #riarts or you can submit via email or mail through steps on riarts.org.
In addition, Raimondo also talked about how her and her administration will continue working hard in reeking reasoning as to why the Hispanic community in Rhode Island has been so greatly affected by COVID-19.
The governor announced that on Tuesday, April 28 at 7:00 p.m. she will be holding a Facebook Town Hall with Angélica Infante-Green, Rhode Island’s Commissioner of Education to address questions the Rhode Island Hispanic community may have.
More information regarding the Facebook Town Hall will be found on the RIDE Facebook page this weekend.
