Gov. Raimondo urges motorists off roads as major storm advances

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Gov. Gina Raimondo is advising motorists in Rhode Island to be off the roads as a winter storm approaches southern New England.
In a taped message, Raimondo said Monday morning that it will be a “bad, severe storm” and could be dangerous. She advises motorists to be off the roads by 8 p.m. Monday.
It is not mandatory for motorists to be off the roads.
Northeast residents are bracing for the storm, which is expected to blanket states from New Jersey to Maine. Forecasters say 20 to 30 inches in areas are possible.
Strong winds also could threaten power lines and poles.
