Governor asks young girls what they would do in her job

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Gov. Gina Raimondo is asking young girls what they would do if they were Rhode Island‘s governor for a day.

Raimondo says she’s holding an essay contest to encourage young girls to become leaders in their communities. She says the initiative is part of Women’s History Month.               

The essay contest is open to Rhode Island girls in 5th through 8th grades. The winner will be named “governor for a day,” and spend a day meeting with leaders across state government this spring.

Raimondo says she wants girls to know that with hard work and dedication, the opportunities available to them in Rhode Island are endless.

The deadline to submit essays to the governor’s communications office is March 13.             

Essays must be 400 words or less.
