PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Gov. Gina Raimondo has nominated Rhode Island School of Design faculty member William Foulkes to the state Board of Education.
The governor says she will submit Foulkes’ name to the Rhode Island State Senate for confirmation next week.
Foulkes will serve on the board’s Council on Postsecondary Education if he is confirmed.
Raimondo said Friday she is nominating Foulkes because of his experience in education and leadership.
Foulkes teaches entrepreneurship and business at the prestigious art school. He has an undergraduate degree in business from Harvard College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
The pick replaces Raimondo’s earlier nomination of Jim Karam. Raimondo says Karam asked her to withdraw his name from consideration because of work obligations.
