Governor Raimondo Does Post Storm Assessment

The snow removal – both public and private – continued Wednesday morning, days after a blizzard hit New England.

Governor Raimondo, visited South County for a post–mortem on the storm.

“The travel ban was successful. I am glad we put it place right away. I have to thank everybody for obeying it. Even through the night last night – after we lifted the ban – very few people were on the roads, which allowed us to do our work,” said Governor Gina Raimondo, (D-RI).

The travel ban shuttered many businesses, like “Bagelz” in Wakefield, where the Governor came to visit. Customers were back, too.

“It’s always a shame to lose a day out of the deal, but I thought everything got handled really well. The travel ban was a really good idea, and it kept everyone off the road, so they could get them back the way they needed to be,” said “Bagelz” co-owner, Scott Lieberman.

As of noon Interstate 95 was in very good condition; as were major state highways, such as Route 1.

Side streets still need lots of work, and the Governor warned of dangerous icing with another overnight freeze.

ABC6 Chief Political Reporter Mark Curtis said, “One of the most important things in these post storm assessments is ‘lessons learned’ and how to do things better the next time around.”

So the Governor met with South County leaders, who say there was critical cooperation between National Grid and public works crews.

“So we can cut and push back and they can restore power. So things have.. there’s been significant improvement coordinating with Grid since Nemo,” said Jon Schock, Public Works Director for South Kingstown.

So far, the overall storm response…is getting high marks and praise.
