Governor Raimondo holds final briefing of 2020, discusses stimulus and updated coronavirus cases

PROVIDENCE, R.I (WLNE) – Governor Raimondo held her final briefing of 2020 to discuss how the state used its stimulus money to support the COVID response.

Governor Raimondo started her briefing by showing the most recent data from the Department of Health.

The most recent numbers show 880 additional cases, and 8 new deaths.

Governor Raimondo pointed out that the positivity rate did decrease from the prior week, going from 7.8 % to 6.4%, a decrease she attributes to the recent state pause.

The Governor is still asking residents to remain diligent so the state can reach the goal rate of 5% or less.

She also introduced a new data set of vaccines administered in the state, showing 6,400 residents have received the first dosage of the vaccine.

She went on to say that Rhode Island received $1.25 billion in relief from the CARES act, that would be used to combat the coronavirus.

Health officials urged residents to keep gatherings to a minimum to prevent further spread.

Up to two households can have dinner together if they are not eating indoors.

Governor Raimondo also urged Rhode Islanders to get tested before and after Christmas.
