Guatemalan national charged with allegedly assaulting officers

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom said that a Guatemalan National who was on bail awaiting trial on felony domestic assault charges was also charged with allegedly assaulting federal officers.

37-year-old Cristian Aroldo Pineda Diaz assault, resisting, and impeding a federal law enforcement officer in performance of official duties.

Bloom said that an ICE officer, a DEA agent, and a U.S. Marshal approached Diaz on July 15, and he tackled one of the agents in an effort to flee.

Bloom also said the agent was “seriously injured.”

Diaz was previously arrested in 2023 on charges of felony domestic assault charges and violation of a protective order, and had been in the country since 2006.
