PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Republican candidate for Governor Giovanni Feroce is responding after a civil warrant was issued for his arrest.
A judge issued the warrant after Feroce failed to appear in court Tuesday, which means police would bring him straight to the court house or he could go on his own.
Speaking to ABC6 on the phone Wednesday night, Giovanni Feroce says he didn’t know he had to appear in court Tuesday, over a debt he owed.
He says he’s in the New York area, and doesn’t expect to go before a judge at all.
"I don’t believe I’ll have to appear in court//because the matter is being negotiated and taken care of," said Feroce.
Dogged by financial issues recently, Feroce says he thought the roughly $8,000 owed to the Broder Brothers clothing company to pay for t-shirts was an issue with his former company Benrus, not him as an individual.
Still, expects the matter to be resolved soon.
"I hope so, yes. I expect that we would settle tomorrow," said Feroce.
But Feroce’s Republican primary opponent in the gubernatorial race, Patricia Morgan, is not wasting any time in calling for Feroce to drop out.
"Obviously I’m disappointed. I think it shows two things. It shows the prejudgment. And the second thing is it goes to show you she probably has no idea what she’s talking about, or business," said Feroce.
As for whether he will get out of the race, Feroce told us, "Absolutely not. It’s not even a consideration."
Feroce also told ABC6 he understands this is making news because he’s a candidate for governor…and it’s part of being involved in politics.
