Harlem Globetrotters want to be an official NBA franchise

NEW YORK, N.Y. (WLNE)- The Harlem Globetrotters are looking to get themselves an expansion spot in the NBA.

The touring exhibition basketball team sent a letter to the NBA requesting an expansion spot in the league on Monday.

Expansion is something the league has been talking about for years, potentially looking bring a team to back Seattle.

On Tuesday, Globetrotters executive vice president and general manager Jeff Munn added the following statement.

The Globetrotters have been around for nearly 100 years. The team was established in 1927, 19 years before the NBA was formed.
