PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Hasbro is giving old toys a second life, through a new, first-of-its-kind recycling program.
The donated Hasbro toys and games will be recycled into materials used to make playgrounds, park benches and flower pots – to name a few examples.
"It’s just a beautiful story around the circular economy and seeing our products with a new life,” explained Kathrin Belliveau, the head of sustainability at Hasbro.
The Pawtucket-based toymaker is partnering with recycling company TerraCycle to make this happen. All you have to do is create on online account, box up your toys and mail them out. The shipping label is free.
For now, it’s a pilot program limited to the contiguous United States, but if all goes well, the hope is to expand this initiative worldwide.
"This is so exciting because it’s the first time Hasbro is working directly with our consumers on this shared purpose and passion for sustainability,” said Belliveau.
