Hasbro Children’s Hospital unveils portrait celebrating patient with rare disease

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — On Monday, Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence joined with Beyond the Diagnosis to bring a personalized portrait of a young patient in the hospital’s care.
Beyond the Diagnosis is an art exhibit focusing on patients with rare diseases, where artists donate their time and talent to creating unique portraits for each patients.

According to hospital officials, the patient, 18-year-old Logan Brown, suffers from a rare neurological disease and in 2019, his spinal cord had become stuck and needed surgery to free from his vertebrate.
The condition does not have a name, but his parents affectionately named it “Logan Brown Syndrome,” saying that despite his challenges, he continues to be a light in their life.
Brown’s mother said that without the help and quick work of surgeons with Hasbro Children’s Hospital, he may not have been able to walk again.
He has since been receiving care from Hasbro’s division of pediatric neurosurgery.

Surgeons, clinicians and families of patients diagnosed with neurological diseases were in attendance at the reveal of the portrait of Brown, done by Lucas Kolasa.
Tracy Wallace, the Vice President of Pediatrics for Lifespan, the project is one months in the making but the hospital is proud to be honoring their patients.
“We’re so happy that they’re here — we’re so happy that Dr. Klinge introduced us to this foundation and certainly providing us opportunity to recognize the incredible work — and these patients who have rare diseases and are here to celebrate this wonderful event with us,” Wallace said at the ceremony.
