Headed for a Heat Wave

We have a lot of things happening weather-wise in the next few days! The main items you’ll notice will be the heat and humidity. An EXTREME HEAT WARNING  has been issued to go into effect at 11 am Sunday and last through 8 pm Tuesday. In this window of time, we will have daytime highs in the 90s and even 100 Tuesday, combined with the high humidity, it will feel like 100-108.  Segments of our population will be affected by this spike in heat and humidity. Small children, the elderly and folks with respiratory ailments will be especially at risk for heat related illness with heat and humidity. Be sure to drink plenty of water, seek air conditioning comfort, and avoid extended periods of time in the sun, particularly during the peak time of heating of the day 10 am – 2 pm. We also have an AIR QUALITY ALERT in effect for late Sunday for Washington and Newport Counties. Poor air quality is expected along the immediate coastline from late afternoon into the evening. A warm front coming through Sunday morning with some clouds and the slightest chance of an isolated shower and even an isolated thunderstorm is possible. Any thunderstorms we see will have the chance of being severe with downpours, frequent lightning, damaging winds and hail. The meat of the day will be a mix of sun and clouds and very hot with a high near 94 and with the humidity, will feel like 101. Another chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms will be in the afternoon as a weakening front swings through. Monday will be mostly sunny, hot and humid with a high in the lower 90s and feel-like temperatures of 101 again. Tuesday will be the hottest day with sunny skies, temps topping out near 100 and feel-like temperatures of 108. Wednesday will be another hot one with highs near 90 and feel like temps in the mid-90s. Thursday will have a mix of sun and clouds and much cooler high temperatures near 78. Late Thursday will have a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. This unsettled weather will be here through Friday and into Saturday with mostly cloudy skies, the chance of showers, and highs in the upper-70s.
