Healey orders safety review of all Mass. assisted living facilities one week after Gabriel House fire

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — It’s been a little more than one week since the deadly fire at the Gabriel House in Fall River.

And starting Monday, new safety measures will begin to prevent tragedies like these from happening.

Today Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey is ordering a review of the state’s 273 assisted living facilities.

That will include informing all residents and families in writing of the fire safety protocols, evacuation procedures and key contacts at their residence.

Facilities will need to ensure evacuation and exit routes are posted in each unit and in common areas.

Emergency preparedness plans must be submitted to the state within 30 days.

The review also requires assisted living facilities to complete a fire assessment survey.
