Health officials recall nearly 14,000 pounds of ready-to-eat meals

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Health announced Thursday that Garland Ventures is recalling nearly 14,000 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken fried rice meals due to possible bacteria exposure.

The department said 13,842 pounds of products may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.

The food items were produced on Nov. 10.

The product is a 12-ounce tray of Freshness Guaranteed brand chicken fried rice with the lot code WK10CFR. It has a best if used by date of Nov. 10, 2024.

They were made to be shipped to stores nationwide.

Health officials said there have been no reports of illness due to consuming the products. Anyone with concerns should contact a healthcare professional.

Consuming the bacteria can cause listeriosis, a serious infection which primarily affects older adults, those with weakened immune systems, and pregnant woman and their newborns.

Listeriosis can cause various symptoms like fever, muscle aches, confusion, and gastrointestinal issues.

Those who purchased the products are urged to throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
