ABC6 STORMTRACKER WEATHER: Heat wave expected this week

Heat advisory in effect today through Wednesday

The heat and humidity is back in full force, and we are looking at a very toasty few days. With a warm and humid start this morning, expect some patchy fog to persist through the mid-morning hours before burning off. Lots of sunshine this afternoon will enable air temperatures to climb into the upper 80s and low 90s, but with the humidity it will feel more like the upper 90s.

We have a heat advisory in effect beginning at 11 this morning and unlike last week, this one includes the South Coast – only leaving out the Cape and Islands. The reason is that although the air temperatures will be lower by the ocean, the marine influence will make it more humid, making it feel warmer. That heat advisory remains in effect until Wednesday, with the heat peaking tomorrow. Tomorrow afternoon, heat index values will reach the triple digits.

Tomorrow we’re also on record watch for Providence – the record high temperature for July 29th at T.F. Green is 95, and we’re forecasting a high of 96. That record was set back in 2002.

Thursday looks like the most unsettled day this week with showers and storms likely, adding to an already wet July. So far, we’ve seen close to double the average July rainfall in Providence – with 4.8″ of rain since July 1st. After that, the end of the week is looking much more mild.

Stay cool out there!
