Heavy rain returns on Thursday

We’re looking at another mostly cloudy and rather windy day here in Southern New England. Expect winds to be in the teens and gusts into the 20s, with a few even hitting 30 mph. Along with the clouds, a shower or two is possible, especially further east (very similar to Tuesday). Highs will be in the low 50s.

Thursday starts similarly– breezy with clouds around. Highs will be in the upper 50s with a shower possible in the afternoon. However, our next storm arrives Thursday evening, which will bring soaking rain, gusty winds and even a little thunder possible through early Friday morning. It’ll be uncomfortable outside for anyone getting on the roads after about 6:30 PM, so be cautious behind the wheel.

The good news is, timing is on our side with this one. Aside from the fact that the heaviest rain begins after most are home from the evening commute, the rain will taper off as the sun rises on Halloween! We could still see a stray shower or two on Friday morning, and will be windy throughout the day. But, come trick-or-treat time, it will be dry! Highs will be in the mid to upper 50s.

So far, the weekend looks solid. Expect highs in the mid 50s and sunshine both days.

On a separate note: Hurricane Melissa has entered the record books for all the wrong reasons. This is one of the strongest hurricanes in the Atlantic Basin’s history. The storm is tied for third most intense by way of barometric pressure, having hit 892mb at landfall in Jamaica, and tied for second in terms of intensity based on peak sustained wind speeds (185mph). This storm has made a second landfall (around 3:10 AM Wednesday) in Cuba, and is now headed for the Bahamas/Turks and Caicos.
