Heavy rain to soak New England Wednesday Night, flooding likely

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — It’s a damp and dreary evening out there, but showers will be tapering off through the overnight.

Wednesday starts dry and cloudy, with rain returning in the later afternoon. Downpours are expected at night through early Thursday morning, with 2-4″ possible.

A **FLOOD WATCH** will go into effect tomorrow night as a result. Expect flooding on poor drainage roadways and in other areas.

This will also throw our rivers back into minor or moderate flood stage. If you live along the banks of the Pawtuxet, Pawcatuck, Wood or Taunton rivers, take action now.

Rain should taper into Thursday afternoon, but it will remain cloudy and breezy as it turns a bit chillier into the weekend as well.

We finally see the return of the sun on Friday, but it won’t last long. Clouds return for Saturday and then rain on Sunday. At least it will be dry for the annual Providence St. Patrick’s parade!
