High surf, rip currents beginning this afternoon
Showers arrive tomorrow afternoon
We have another mild day on tap today with temperatures below average for August. Temperatures this morning started off in the 50s and even the 40s(!) for some folks, and by this afternoon we’re headed for the low 70s with a mix of clouds and sunshine. Winds will be less gusty than yesterday, out of the east at about 10-15mph. One thing to keep in mind today through the rest of the week is that, with Hurricane Erin churning in the Atlantic, there will be rough seas.
For that reason, we have a high surf advisory in effect from now through Thursday. When waves peak on Thursday, Hurricane Erin will be about 400 miles offshore from us. Still, seas of 8′ – 13′ are possible – this can lead to unsafe boating conditions and dangerous rip current risks. If you’re headed to the beaches or out on the water over the next few days, use extreme caution.
Tomorrow starts off mostly cloudy, and after around lunchtime we have a chance of some much-needed rain showers as a front passes to our south. The thinking is that the heaviest of the rain sets up to our south and west, but we could still see up to half an inch of rain or more in some spots. With all the cloudiness around, tomorrow is also the coolest day this week, with highs just around 70.
Beginning Thursday, we clear out and slowly begin to warm back up, reaching 80 and a summer-like feel once again by the weekend.
Have a great day!
