The Navy’s newest, most technologically advanced missile ship, USS Zumwalt, is scheduled to depart from Newport early Monday morning.

The USS Zumwalt departed from Bath Iron Works Shipyard in Maine Wednesday and docked in Newport early Friday afternoon.

The visit marked Zumwalt’s first port visit before the ship ultimately sails to her new homeport of San Diego.

During the transit, the ship took part in training operations, a commissioning ceremony in Baltimore, and various port visits.

The ship is named after former Chief of Naval Operations and World War II veteran, Adm. Elmo R. Zumwalt.

The vessel is scheduled to depart from NAVSTA’s Pier 2 at approximately 10 a.m. Monday morning after a four day visit. The ship will be passing through East Passage and under the bridges between 10:15 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Upon arrival in San Diego, USS Zumwalt is scheduled to take part in a Post Delivery Availability and Mission Systems Activation.
