High winds knock power out for residents across Rhode Island

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WLNE) — The strong winds caused widespread power outages across Rhode Island with residents waking up for work in the dark on Tuesday morning.

Washington County had hundreds of power outages as of late morning. The power was out for four hours or more in some neighborhoods.

Narragansett resident Ben Aleixo, who works from home, had to go to a friend’s house to log online for work.

“Usually start work around [8 a.m.] and the power wasn’t back on at that point,” Aleixo said. “It was a little bit of an inconvenience.”

Strong winds knocked trees down across Rhode Island, even causing a utility pole in Warwick to partially snap, which temporarily shut down a portion of Airport Road.

As of about 1 p.m. Wednesday, more than a hundred customers were still without power in the southern portion of Rhode Island.
