NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — Mayor Jon Mitchell was joined by Servedwell Hospitality owner Stephen Silverstein to cut the ribbon at a new restaurant inside the city’s historic Rodman Candleworks building on Water Street.

Candela Cucina, which means “kitchen candle,” is housed in the building that opened as a business that produced luxury candles crafted from sperm whale oil in 1815.

“The Silverstein family has invested heavily in New Bedford for generations, from the New Bedford institution that was Silverstein’s clothing store, the restaurants that dot the city today, to supporting numerous local causes,” Mitchell said. “I congratulate Stephen and his team for another successful launch.”
