EXETER, R.I. (WLNE) — The Housing Network of Rhode Island and the Women’s Development Corporation hosted a tour of Exeter’s first affordable housing development on Monday.

The Pine View Apartments, located on Pine View Lane, is made up of five one-bedroom apartments and 35 two-bedroom apartments, with 32 of the units arranged for households earning 60% of the Area Median Income.

Eight are reserved for households earing 30-50%.

HNRI and WDC called the development a “milestone project,” in which it is the state’s first affordable housing development financed with the Federal 4% Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program.

“From the very beginning, our goal with Pine View was to build more than just housing—we set out to create a community that offers stability, dignity, and opportunity for working families,” Women’s Development Corporation Executive Director Frank Shea said. “We’re proud of what this project represents: a new chapter for Exeter, for affordable housing in rural areas, and for the state’s ability to leverage smart, sustainable development tools to meet real needs.”

The apartments sustainability features include a rooftop solar array, which will offset “more than 80% of common area energy usage” and help reduce emissions and operational costs.
