Holidays in full swing at Newport Mansions

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — Christmas may be over a month away, but the holidays are in full effect at the mansions in Newport. Finishing touches are being made now for the official opening in just two days.
Oversized ornaments, twinkling candles, and Christmas lights around every corner at three Newport Mansions.
Jim Donahue is the Curator of Historic Landscapes and Horticulture at The Preservation Society of Newport County, which means he’s the man responsible for the holiday decorations.
He explained, “We have everything from decorated Christmas trees, to all sorts of seasonal plants and flowers, every mantle piece, every room has something going on.”
That’s about 30 rooms total along with hallways and entrances at The Breakers, The Elms, and The Marble House. Donahue along with dozens of employees and volunteers have been working since just after Columbus Day to get things ready for the holiday season.
A focal piece this year will be the 15-foot poinsettia tree in the Great Hall of The Breakers. In all, about 3,000 poinsettias were grown for the holiday display.
The displays will be complete and open starting this Saturday and will be up and running through January.
