Police are investigating the death of a man and a woman in a North Providence home. They say it appears to be a domestic violence murder-suicide.
Police found the couple dead at 25 Hobson Ave Tuesday morning after responding to a well-being check. The couple has been identified as 52-year-old Michael Dube and 48-year-old Robin Dube.
“We were actually contacted by the employers of one of the residents who hadn’t heard from him in several days and was concerned and asked us to conduct a check on the well-being,” said Acting Chief, Christopher Pelagio.
Michael Dube’s employer, Materion Technical Materials reports that the last time they saw him was January 26th.
When police came to check on Dube Tuesday morning, they found his North Providence home virtually untouched from the snow. After no one answered the door they forced their way inside.
“Officers observed a deceased male and a deceased female inside of the residence,” said Pelagio.
Police say Michael Dube died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. A Colt .22 semi-automatic handgun was recovered from the scene. Police say Robin Dube suffered multiple stab wounds and died as a result of those injuries. We’re told two bloodied knives were found in the garbage.
Chief Pelagio says authorities responded to the home four different times between 2005-2014.
One neighbor we spoke with told us that he is shocked but not surprised that this happened. He says he heard the couple fighting on numerous occasions and new that something wasn’t right.
“I don’t want to speak bad, but I’m just basically saying I’m not surprised,” said James Bacon.
A note was also left at the house but police would not comment about what it said.
Police say the incident is still under investigation.
