Hopkinton officer comes face-to-face with a black bear on patrol

HOPKINTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Yesterday, the Hopkinton Police Department shared their experience with a black bear while once of their officers was on patrol.
“Sgt. Percival spotted this sizable black bear in the vicinity of exit 7 while on patrol,” wrote the department on Facebook.
The post continued that the department was advised that whistling was not preferred method of communication.
“Due to the heavy fog, Sgt. Percival asked if he needed a ride. He asked if he was being detained before fleeing into the woods,” said the post.
