PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) Democrats took back control of the house by picking up at least 25 seats in the 2018 Midterm election.
Here in the ocean state, Democratic congressmen David Cicilline and Jim Langevin had an easy route to re-election.
In Rhode Island’s first congressional district Cicilline defeated republican challenger Patrick Donovan by receiving over 66% of the vote.
In the second district Langevin defeated Salvatore Caiozzo by receiving over 63% of the vote.
Cicilline, now a five-term congressman, is positioned for a potential house leadership role as he announced in September that he would seek the 4th ranking position of assistant democratic leader if his party won majority.
Cicilline, a former state law-maker and mayor of providence has been a strong supporter of expanded gun control and a vocal critic of president trump.
Langevin meanwhile is an expert in cybersecurity and healthcare issues and was first elected to congress in 2000.
