House votes to create RI 250th Commission

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – The Rhode Island House of Representatives voted to create the Rhode Island Semiquincentennial Commission on Thursday.
The Commission will assist local and state organizations in educating the public about Rhode Island’s role in the American Revolution, which started 250 years ago this year.
Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea and Education Commissioner Angelica Infante-Green are among the Commission members. The Commission will also consist of members of the public.
“The bill will allow our state to promote its unique role in the founding of our country and stimulate our local economy through civic engagement and tourism opportunities,” Secretary Gorbea said in a statement.
